Final Painting #3

This last painting is of:
The Hall of Bright Carvings.

Final Painting #2

Gormenghast Castle, The first image (Blue'er) was the first attempt for the right time of day but I then thought it would look better being sunset/sunrise :) here they are.

^ First Attempt ^

^ Final Painting #2 ^

In this painting I decided to make a different time of day, I chose sunset/sunrise, I also tried adding a glow to everything by using the 'colour dodge' brush and layer settings. I think there is still something wrong with this painting though, but I cant work it out, Any ideas?

Digital Painting..

Well as I havent uploaded my Digital Paintings I shall do so now..

Hmm Problems uploading.. Trying again..

Nope not able to upload.. Will try again in a few hours..

Found the problem, Cant upload *.Tif files... stupid blogger.. i have 3 *.Jpg and one *.Tif and for that one file it doesnt like uploading them all...... uploading the three I am able to upload..

Here They Are:

This First painting is of a cave, has nothing to do with my book but instead was a trial at getting used to the graphics tablet on the first session with Simon Holland.

This Second painting is of a 'hallway' which I feel is a bit too bright and under 'furnished' :/

This Third one is W.I.P I think it is successful so far as the cliffs on either side give depth to the scene, I have placed a 'castle' type building on the left in the background. Also thinking of changing the scene to be more 'dead' and darker.

Working on a new painting now.

Batman stuff..

Stuff I might need..

Images:

"Batman: Arkham Asylum is an action-adventure stealth video game based on DC Comics' Batman for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. It was developed by Rocksteady Studios and published by Eidos Interactive in conjunction with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics. The PS3 and Xbox versions of the game were released on August 25, 2009 in North America and August 28, 2009 in Europe, and the PC version was released on September 15 in North America and on September 18 in Europe.

Batman: Arkham Asylum, written by veteran Batman writer Paul Dini, is based on the long-running comic book mythos, as opposed to most other Batman games which are adaptations of the character in other media besides the source material. The Joker, Batman's archenemy, has instigated an elaborate plot from within Arkham Asylum where many of Batman's other villains have been incarcerated. Batman investigates and comes to learn that the Joker is trying to create an army of Bane-like creatures that threaten Gotham City, and is forced to put a stop to the Joker's plans. The game's main characters are voiced by actors from the DC animated universe, namely Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Arleen Sorkin reprise their roles as Batman, the Joker, and Harley Quinn, respectively. The game is played as a third-person perspective action-adventure game with a primary focus on Batman's combat abilities, his stealth and detective skills, and an arsenal of gadgets that can be used in both combat and exploration.

The game received extremely high praise from critics, earning a 92% average on GameRankings, a game aggregator. This also earned it a spot in the Guinness World Records for "Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game". Sales were also high, selling over 2 million copies within its first two weeks of its console release."

Essay Choosing

I Have chosen to do my essay on Batman Arkham Asylum.

I like comics and thought it would be a good idea to research deeper into the game.

The original comic 'special edition'

The Joker Concept.

The Haunting

The Haunting a horror film was made in 1963, and directed by Robert Wise. Which is also an adaption of The Haunting of Hill House: Shirly Jackson. The film is based around a team of 'Paranormal Investigators'in Hill House, which they spend a few nights in and witness the strange happenings in the house.

**Something went wrong with blogger when trying to upload picture.. Still editing.. Just re-booting internet explorer... Problem Sorted :D**

Right back to it.. Uploading Image..

I especially liked the look and feel of The Haunting as for starters the b&w had appealed to me for this kind of film. Dark scenes where necesary and lighter where needed. I have yet to see the remake but according to classmates and reviews its nothing like the original..

Looking forward to the upcoming films Phil is going to show us. :) thanks Phil for showing me a new light on 'Older' films. :D

ALIEN.

Alien, THE original.

I really enjoyed this film due to the 'scary-ness' and the environments. The vast amount of detail that went into each and every shot. Even the ones which are only seen for about 20 seconds at max. (Last Pic) Ill admit, I did laugh at the part where the baby alien (1st Pic) burst out the guys chest. Well I think quite a few of us did ;) It also made me laugh when the people who said they had seen it before, still jumped a few times when the 'Aliens' Jumped out. :)

Ian Millers Take on Hall of Bright Carvings

This is Ian Millers take on The Hall of Bright Carvings, I had a different view of the 'HoBC' from the reading of the chapter, as from the previous post I have a long hallway with a shelf, which wasnt on the sketches.. but this example looks much more brighter, and 'open' I though to my self when I started this project to keep specifically to the text but from this image I see, it's my own interpretation.. So ill have a whack again during tommorow ;)

Concepts..

Well my first time using a grafix tablet so yh.. I think I could have done better but overall I think I have accomplished the feel of the room. There are a few more bits needed, A shelf with carvings on, dust everywhere, a stream of light behind the camera, The door at the end of the hall... Lots more to be added.... anyway...

Please let me know what you all think :) I do think the yellow'y tint is a bit too much?

Finally, Titus Groan by Mervyn Peake!! I ordered it on the saturday after we got our briefs.. Took that long to get through... Long enough.. Now I shall get reading and taking notes. Making doodles and sketches, what ever I feel I need to take note of I shall...

Well yeah.. uhmmm I shall start... Leave me be :P

The Night Of The Hunter

Well this film was a Comedy/Horror :P
At the time of filming, 1955, this was classed as a Horror. A typical scene of horror in 1955 was when the main character, Reverend Harry Powell, jumps up from the bottom of the screen. Everyone in the lecture theatre yesterday was laughing at him :P

We also found it funny when the lady at the end, that takes the children in, points the shot gun at Rv Powell, and shoots him, he runs off screaming and shouting like a girl :)

This film was not recognised very well on release with the critics/audience, which lead the director, Charles Laughton, away from the movie industry. He never directed another film. The Film has a slight touch of German Expressionism, with strange shadows and strange camera angles, to create a disturbing atmosphere.

AND! It's number five in the list of films you should see by the age of 14!!! Well, According to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BFI_list_of_the_50_films_you_should_see_by_the_age_of_14
(I know.. wikipedia... but thats a useful list :D)
